About the Teacher: I received my teaching degree from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh and did graduate work at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. My teaching experience started in the public schools in West Allis, Neenah and Racine, Wisconsin. My husband, Tom, was transferred to Detroit, Michigan and I continued my career in the Lutheran schools in Detroit and Farmington Hills, Michigan. I have taught Preschool through sixth grade. I was an administrator of St. Timothy Lutheran School in Detroit and served on the District Board of Education in Ann Arbor, Michigan, for eleven years. One of my duties was to be the board representative on the Lutheran Michigan Principals Committee. As of June 2006, I have completed my 40th year of teaching. My husband and I enjoy mountain hiking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains around the Lake Tahoe Rim Trails each year. We have succeeded in climbing Mt. Rose (el. 10,450 ft.) five times. My two children are Michigan State graduates and they are working in Oshkosh and Portland, Oregon. My teaching career has given me the joy of working with children and seeing them flourish. God has blessed me with this opportunity to share my love of Jesus with His little ones.

PRESCHOOL NEWS

PK3 class has just finished the Farm Unit of study.  The church bulletin board displays some of the activities.

We learned about the farm and many of the animals. The children found out where milk came from and the process it takes from the farm to the dairy and then home.  They tasted several milk products.  The children had fun milking our own “Milky the Cow” and sang the Ella Jenkins song, “Did You Milk My Cow”.

Pigs, chickens, rooster, sheep and ducks filled our days with songs, stories and art projects.

Finally we have spring-like weather so that we can learn about the signs of spring.  The PK4 class went on a hunt for robins, crocuses, buds on trees and bushes, worms and ants as the world comes alive once again.  We collected materials that a bird might use to make their nest.  We can sequence the story of a bird hatching from its egg to when it flies away.

We will learn about insects and recognize them by name.  Of course flowers are next as we make May baskets.  The metamorphosis of the caterpillar and the tadpole is a fascinating study for the children.  Spring is such a beautiful time.  The resurrection of Jesus and new life is at the center of all we teach.

Next month the children will go to the Grand Opera House to see the play “Cinderella” and host a Mothers’ Tea.  The children will bake, decorate and learn special songs for their mothers.  A personalized book for each mother is under way as a gift of appreciation.  It is filled with pictures of their child and the memorable times we have had in Preschool throughout the year.

I am excited about the opportunities Trinity Lutheran School has for the 2008-2009 school year.  Our preschool program is expanding.
